Disability Policy and Maternity SUB
Provisions for Maternity SUB
The Christian Education Health Plan disability policy includes a provision for Maternity Supplemental Unemployment Benefits (SUB).
SUB Plan benefits are intended to supplement Maternity and Parental Leave Employment Insurance benefits received during the period of disability following delivery. The combination of SUB Plan benefits and EI benefits will provide income equivalent to that payable under the current school selected, Short-Term Disability Plan.
The SUB Plan together with EI Benefits, provide the following level of income replacement:
- First Week - $0 (qualifying period - sick leave may apply)
- Next 7 Weeks - 66.7% or 75% of weekly earnings (depending on the STD plan that your school has elected)
- Next 19 weeks (with medical proof) - 66.7% or 75% of weekly earnings (depending on the STD plan that your school has elected)
The first week following delivery is the qualifying period and SUB Plan benefits are not paid. SUB Plan benefits are payable as a top-up to EI for the next 7 weeks, with proof delivery and proof of EI benefits received.
Eligibility
To be eligible, the participant must provide Manulife with proof that you have applied for and are in receipt of EI benefits in order to receive SUB Plan benefits.
When the qualification requirements are met, you may receive SUB Plan benefits for the next 7 weeks after the qualifying period without providing medical proof of disability. For periods of pregnancy disability extending beyond this eight week period (1 week qualifying plus 7 weeks of benefit), you will be required to provide medical proof of disability.
Short Term Absence benefits are not payable with respect to any period for which you are eligible to receive SUB Plan benefits.
